Part of the Virtual World MOOC 2022 Conference

VR and the metaverse is an open play field for educators and students. When you can build anything, it’s overwhelming. The DEW Concept model by Lorelle VanFossen and Karen Gibson-Hylands is an educational virtual world building and selection process framework that identifies key characteristics and world models that encourage discovery, exploration, and wonder wrapped in a strong narrative.

Within this conceptual framework lies the ingredients to make ideal educational worlds that encourage learning through high engagement, with some adventure tossed in as seasoning. The DEW Concept model framework is ideal for educators to build or select educational virtual worlds, and for developing student projects. The model helps to lower the stress and confusion around educational worlds and sets a standard for interaction and engagement.

VWMOOC22, September 1-30, is a month-long conference in Second Life and other platforms exploring virtual worlds and the metaverse promoting education and learning in collaborative virtual spaces like Second Life, Digiworldz, Kitely, Minecraft, OpenSim, and AltspaceVR.

For more information, see their Facebook and Second Life Headquarters.

NOTE: This event will be livestreamed via Zoom into Second Life and other platforms.

Educators in VR hosts over 800 free and paid workshops, classes, and meetups across multiple VR platforms. Get involved.
