Reznikov: Smart Impact-Assisted Rapid Construction for Space Colonization
The new technology provides shelter before landing with a leading ultra-high-speed impact penetrator, which is launched from the lander, adapting its kinetic energy.
The separation engine launches the penetrator projectile and transfers kinetic energy from the lander to the penetrator. The separator impulse decelerates the descent vehicle, facilitating a soft landing, and accelerates the penetrator by conserving energy and momentum.
The Deep-Impact Penetrator pierces the crater of a pre-designed shelter. Prototype-penetrators are kinetic all-metal projectile, or converted for Space operations Disney military-grade bomb, or modern Earth-Penetrating Weapon (EPW) with a powerful warhead for extensive blast-excavation.
After the flip maneuver, the Lander enters the dug shaft for surfacing the walls by the aerodynamic ejection of debris, melting and sintering of surface layer, instantly reinforcing the walls. - The parked in the shaft rocket can be used for habitation, production and storage of propellants. Inflatable, 3D-printed, or molded housings can be deployed underground for comfortable habitation. The pierced craters and shafts can be gateways to the surface and combine ancient craters, lava tubes, and caverns in protected vast spaces for agro-industrial and mining infrastructures, accumulation and distribution of fluids, extraterrestrial engineering on planets and asteroids, generation of atmosphere, in-situ resources utilization.
The paper will discuss numerous applications for construction and research, the benefits of deep-impact technology for rapid space settlement, implementation timelines and budget ideas.
