Cognitive Skills, Language Development and The Brain: Employing the Neuroscience of Learning to Create More Effective VR/AR/XR Experiences.

The vLanguage track team is back with a special guest: Cassondra Eng.

Cassie, a Ph.D. Candidate at Carnegie Mellon University, will talk about how her work has focused on the design of educational materials (mostly interactive e-books and tablets) to support language learning; with current research using XR experiences focused on enhancing brain development and cognitive skills (attention, cognitive flexibility, working memory etc.), and she has data that supports how these cognitive skills and neural patterns predict later language development in childhood.

Michael McDonald is a TEFL-qualified English as a foreign language teacher from London who runs a consultancy, Gold Lotus, in Italy supporting schools in the integration of immersive technology within their English language-learning programs. He also researches the efficacy of VR language learning in real-time collaborative settings.

Ekaterina Semeniuk brings a wealth of academic and practical experience as someone who has a background in foreign philology - the history and development of languages - a master's degree in TESOL in Australia and professional experience working as an ELICOS teacher in Sydney. Currently Ekaterina is employed as an English teacher and tutor at a private elementary school to students between 5 and 10 years old, some of which have dyslexia. She is also the new Co-Team Leader of the Educators in VR vLanguage track.

The vLanguage Learning Team Project hosts regular meetups, workshops, special events, and conferences on the use of spatial technology in language education and training. To become involved and learn more about teaching and learning languages in VR, join the Educators in VR Discord and check out the vLanguage Learning channel.

Educators in VR hosts weekly workshops in AltspaceVR on Tuesdays, as well as throughout the week for special events and team project workshops in AltspaceVR and other VR platforms.
