PAST EVENT

PRESENTATION:
Virtual Reality has changed the way we can create and simulate learning experiences. It allows students to profit from both failing and succeeding difficult or dangerous tasks and bring about interest and motivation for subjects involving science, building trades and frontline workers. This is done by recreating learning spaces that simulate real life difficult, unsafe or inaccessible situations. Practicing work with DNA strings, operating an expensive thermocamera, planning a building site, loading and unloading with a Bobcat or navigating through a disaster zone is now something that VR brings into the reach of students. The presentation will show and explain examples of these types of skills based simulations that bring the amazing world of jobs of the future into the classroom.

PRESENTER: Jan Sahlberg
Founder and CEO of SiliconHagen, Jan Ståhlberg, has a mission to change how students and people in industry learn, train and work. This is done by stretching and innovating how technology is used as a tool for better education and skills.

In his previous job as Head of Strategic Partnerships at Danish EdTech company Labster, he was part of a team that brought a catalogue of virtual laboratory simulations for use in high schools and universities. At Labster, Jan was also able to pioneer the use and growing importance of virtual reality in education.

In the past Jan has been an adviser for the UK Government and continues to work as an expert with international organisations such as the European Union, UNESCO and OECD.

Jan has previous experience in peer-to-peer youth and community development work in the UK and USA tackling health promotion, gang violence, crime reduction, drugs prevention and urban regeneration. He has also managed a Danish national centre of excellence for vulnerable children and young people and has a career of fighting for equal rights no matter who you are and where you live and work.
