Track: Special Event

Bringing High School To An Island In Africa Using VR

Mat Chacon, CEO, Doghead Simulations & rumii

Long-distance learning changed education, reaching rural and remote populations. Mat Chacon's work with his educational platform, rumii, is changing remote learning even further. He will share how VR is employed to bridge distance and means and educate people in frontier and emerging markets like Africa and Brazil.

Mat Chacon is the co-founder of Doghead Simulations and the innovative educational and meeting platform, rumii. In 1994, he started a website development company, and at 25, took part in the $63 million USWeb IPO. By 45, he was named a top 20 VR executive. He eventually returned to school and attended college, and now teaches online education for free, much of it in virtual reality, determined to make education accessible and affordable to all.

Second Presentation

Track: Diversity

LGBTQ+ Diversity Panel

LGBTQ+ and Friends Panel hosted by John Williams and Chris

The LGBTQ+ and Friends Meetup is one of the longest running events in AltspaceVR. They meet regularly in VR to create a safe space that offeres support, encouragement, and love from all corners of the world. Within the virtual "Safe House," people who have difficulty sharing their thoughts and experiences are emboldened to share their stories and receive encouragement to live the life they've always dreamed. The panel represents a diverse range of sexuality and gender identification representatives sharing their experiences, challenges, and lessons learned over many years in the AltspaceVR virtual community.

The LGBTQ+ Panel represents the diversity of the LGBTQ+ and Friends Meetup and their popular Discord server, but also the breathe of VR users. Warrior is from Utah and identifies as bisexual transgender, and works as an Amazon Associate. Meta is from the Netherlands and identifies as transgender/pansexual, and works in IT. Leo is from Toronto and identifies as bisexual, and works as a cartoonist. Chris is from Washington State and identifies as gay, and is a virtual events producer. Smartiemartie is from Massachusetts and identifies as female pansexual and works as a janitor at a large rest stop. Henry identifies as gay and has been out for over 20 years, helping others live their pride, and he is host of The Rooftop, a popular show on AltspaceVR. Alan identifies as gay and is a UX specialist in virtual media. John Williams lives in California and identifies as gay, and works as a multimedia producer and online and virtual community manager.
