Operation Literacy: Addressing SDGs through XR

The United Nation's Sustainable Development Goal #4, Quality Education, is addressed through presentation that leverages Metaverse in K-12 education as a tool to help struggling readers. Learn how Augmented Reality experiences created by teachers and ultimately students for students can help boost literacy scores, and the Global XR design challenge that any school or teacher can join for Global Literacy!

Amanda Fox is Creative Director of STEAMPunksEdu, author of Teachingland: A Teacher's Survival Guide to the Classroom Apolcalypse and Zom-Be A Design Thinker, and an XR Publisher with MetaInk Publishing. Alloverse: Building the Open Metaverse

Nevyn Bengtsson, Code poet, Alloverse

The move to spatial human-computer interaction is as inevitable as the move to multi-touch was. As we build new platforms for new software, we have the chance to get back to the core values of the open web: open standards that anyone can interoperate with; and self-publishing instead of being locked into commercial walled gardens. Nevyn Bengtsson will discuss how At Alloverse is doing something radically different. Everything is open source, built on open standards that resemble how the open web used to work, encouraging creators to build software on their own terms, and then bridge it into Alloverse. Imagine creating your own VR classroom and inviting people in from around the world. It's still early development days, but Bengtsson will discuss how this is possible and where the technology is going.

Nevyn Bengtsson has been fascinated by the frontiers of HCI since he was a teenager. He was absolutely entranced by Jeff Han’s multi-touch experiments at the start of the millennium, and jumped on the iOS bandwagon early to explore the new medium. He built Spotify’s iOS app for a few years, then started the UX platform Lookback. Alloverse is his latest project, combining all of his passions: HCI, UX, VR and game engine programming.
