The Fire Escape: Teaching Fire Safety Safely Through VR

AmySue Mertens, Vice President/Public Relations, Ogilvy/Chicago Fire Department Foundation

The Chicago Fire Department Foundation, in pro-bono collaboration with Ogilvy, is bringing fire safety education into the 21st Century with the nation's first VR experience aimed at students grades 4-8. Students walk through the 10 Steps to Fire Safety, while safely escaping a home fire. In this session, the team will discuss the project, lessons learned, progress so far, and next steps toward achieving the Chicago Fire Department's goal of eliminating deaths due to fire.

AmySue Mertens works for Ogilvy-Chicago, an integrated creative agency working with the Chicago Fire Department Foundation on innovative fire safety educational tools. AmySue is utilizing her background in education policy to support the team's first foray into virtual reality education.
