LearnCraft: The Potential of MinecraftVR for Educators

Daniel Dyboski-Bryant, Educator and Co-founder of Educators in VR

Exploring Minecraft with his son, Daniel Dyboski-Bryant, educator and co-founder of Educators in VR, begin to consider the games value, leading them to explore ViveCraft. the two collaborated on an experimental project they called "LurnCraft," alternating between 2D and VR while building his son's vision of a school in Minecraft. This amazing collaborative learning experience changed both of them, and revitalized Daniel's perspective on education in immersive technologies. The user-base of Minecraft is huge and there is a Minecraft Educator version. Explore this further and get inside Minecraft with your learners, connecting their interests with educational goals. Daniel offers some challenges and considerations to keep in mind and explores how this could develop further.

Daniel Dyboski-Bryant is the co-founder of Educators in VR and a VR and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Lecturer and Trainer at Coleg Menai in North Wales UK where he leads the "Exploring VR in Education and Languages" project as well as the college's cross-department VR Working Group and VR Lab. He is a speaker, trainer, and consultant of VR in Education and Educators in VR with clients that include schools, colleges, universities, design teams, training companies, councils, enterprise, and private individuals.

Society 3.0 Abundance by Technology

Jurjen de Vries, Public Speaker & Mentor about future technology and changing society, Jurjen de Vries

Slowly but surely in our society we are shifting from values that we express in money to abundance.Consider Wikipedia or some co-working spaces. But it is also possible with Virtual Reality to have education without traveling and books. Jurjen de Vries takes you on a journey of abundance by technology.

*Jurjen de Vries began online in the early days of Bulletin Boards as a volunteer, and found himself as one of Google’s Top Contributors, and one of the first in the Netherlands to test Google Glass. In October 2014, he and Samir Lahiri founded the Permanent Future Lab movement, a sort of library at Seats2meet.com Utrecht (The Netherlands) where people have access to newest innovations without any borders such as money by sharing economy.

Back to the Future of XR

Heather Elizabeth Dodds, Independent Researcher, Freelance

In this time traveling story, Heahter Elizabeth Dodds begins with paleofuturism, the study of how we looked at the future in the past, then uses science fiction to time travel vehicle into the past, the present, and into the future. How have humans looked at the future? Of what we predicted, what came true? What didn't come true? Where are we now? What will happen in the future? Share the journey to explore patterns and focus on how those intersect with XR in education.

Heather Elizabeth Dodds Ph.D. is a freelance Senior User Experience Research Consultant, selected as one of 54 US researchers to contribute to the State of XR project hosted by the Immersive Learning Research Network (iLRN). She actively publishes about the use of XR via LinkedIn and Facebook. As an independent scholar, she independently analyzes research and technology free from corporate or institutional influence. Her 2013 dissertation is on the effects of virtual worlds (Second Life) on scientific inquiry skills. In her free time, Heather is also the creator of 80s Music Video Tuesday on Facebook and Twitter.
