The XR Creators speaker series is a bi-weekly event held by the XR Creators Unite community, where community members and others interested in VR and AR gather to share information. This week's featured speaker is Mia Smith.

Mia is a recent college honors graduate interested in combining psychology with VR to create experiences that promote self-love and well-being. A VR developer, 3D & fine artist, and technology enthusiast, Mia uses her creative passions and academic interests to discover ways to improve our quality of life through immersive technology.

During Mia's time in college, her incentive to help those with mental illness was encouraged by two memorable internships: the first at a psychiatric hospital's children's unit, and the second co-creating art therapy workshops for adolescents. She was a member of two student-faculty psychology research labs, and is also a member of the Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology.

As the culmination of her college experience, Mia created her own ‘Clinical VR’ simulation in Unity 3D as part of an ambitious academic independent study. This experience was intended to emulate VR treatment methods used in psychotherapy. Now, Mia is exploring different ways immersive technology can help us, through conducting research and listening to the stories of others.
