Social Virtual Archaeology: An Experiment in Public Archaeology

I'm not an archaeologist (but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night 😆). I love reading about archaeology, watching Indiana Jones movies, and visiting archeological sites. Recently I visited Chaco Canyon in New Mexico, the most important archaeological site in North America, according to some. It contains structures (700 rooms! 5 stories!) built a thousand years ago, which were the largest in NA until the 1800s. So I uploaded photogrammetry, a 3D object extracted from almost 1000 images of Aztec Ruins near Chaco, so we can walk around the "ruins" in social virtual reality! You can practically hear the crunch of rubble and sighs of the ancient inhabitants! Please join us to chat about archaeology (AKA "archeology") in social virtual reality!

While I may not be a professional archaeologist, I do have some Indian mounds named after me (Charles Webster). During high school I wrote a letter to the University of Illinois, asking about nearby Indian mounds. Years later, when Mississippi River flooding threatened them, "emergency archaeologists" investigated and wrote a report... in which they referred to "Webster Village and Mounds Site".

While this event has more in common with "slides from my vacation" than Health Systems, the usual topic of our every other week Health Systems Chat in Social VR channel on Altspace, I suspect there are some native medicine connections. Feel free to do some research and bring some interesting speculations and ideas!

In the meantime, feel free to visit the world I am creating to host our event: Archaeology of Chaco Canyon Culture. Note: Under construction until the day of the event!
